Comfort Quilt Being Passed On
This is a very touching story from our local news. It's the story of the journey of the Comfort Quilt and where it is going next. http://www.wgal.com/video/13935435/index.html

Alzheimer Quilts

Quilting for a cause-Alzheimer's Disease.
Alzheimer quilts are lap size quilts made from blocks of fabrics other then cottons. Any type of fabric that is tactile in nature is perfect for these quilts.
This memory robbing disease is very sad for the family members. I once watched a devoted husband cry after his wife talked about him as if he were her brother. Married over 60 years-just heart wretching.
A guild member suggested a unique place to gather free fabric for these quilts-your local upholstery shop or Lazy Boy gallery. Last year's samples can be cut into 6" blocks, sewn together, and backed with flannel or fleece-no batting needed. Learn more about these quilts by visiting AFA Quilt to Remember

Quilts of Valor Project
Our Red Rose Quilters have been busy, busy! Our members have been making 12" blocks to be included in quilt tops that will go to wounded soldiers. The goal is to keep stitching until all of our combat wounded have a quilt. Latest stats as of 8-5-07: 61,350 wounded and 11, 458 QOVs have been awarded. We have a long way to go.
For incentive, our guild offerd a gift certificate to a local fabric for the member who turned in the most blocks-I think one member had over 60 blocks. She didn't do it for the gift-she did it from her heart. We are hoping to present at least 20 quilt tops to Catherine Roberts on Sept. 11 when she visits our giuld. I think there will be a few more then that. Catherine is founder of the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Here's their website for more info and to learn how you can help:

For my college bound daughter

http://www.jankrentz.com
Jan's original pattern is square. Jan took off one row from each side to make it a twin sized. The quilt itself was super easy to piece and stitch together. I had it machine quilted by Nancy at Piece by Piece Quilting in Ephrata PA. She has a wonderful little shop tucked away on N State Street.
My DD school colors are red, black, white and gray.
I call this "Wild One"
My husband said the quilt is "...wild, just like Amy!" Out of our four children, she is the wild one of the bunch. Her goal in life, at age 18, is to become a psychologist or a bartender!! (Aren't they kinda the same thing??) She's a hard working girl-three jobs this summer, including working full time third shift in the Twizzler factory. At least I know she will be cozy and warm in her dorm room on the hill at Lock Haven University PA. So the "quilt for a cause" this month is cause I love her!! Good luck in college Amy!! No matter what you do with your life, I know you will strive to be the very best you can be. xxx000xxx from your Mom

Make a difference in the fight against breast cancer-Quilt Pink!

A family friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer-the kind that mamograms do not detect. She will undergoe a double mastectomy with reconstruction on Aug. 7th. As a nurse, I have met many people who have battled this disease. My heart and my prayers go out to our friend. And how timely for me to receive my October issue of American Patchwork and Quilting in the mail today. The very first page is titled, Get Involved! The magazine is sponsor for The Quilt Pink project. Over 4000 quilts were made last year and continue to be auctioned on ebay, with the proceeds all going to breast cancer research at the Susan G. Komen foundation. The current auctions run through October 2007. The next Quilt Pink project kicks off with a Quilt Pink Weekend, scheduled for Sept. 21-23, 2007.
http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/ has the details and how you can get involved. Be sure to visit the site for more info, ideas and heartwarming stories of how people have made a difference in the lives of others, and how we can battle this disease one quilt at a time.
Those of us who quilt have an amazing gift. I've come to realize that I can not take this gift for granted. What seems simple and comes easily to me, may be far beyond the reach of someone else.

More sites added today
I added more sites to the list today and learned about several projects.
I also added an Events column with links to various auctions and relief sales.
This weekend, I will be finishing up a quilt I made for DD who is off to college in the fall.
Stitching on the binding and the label is all I have left to do. I hope she likes it.
